Create Checklist Template

Checklist Templates are an easy way to manage smaller tasks or essential action items directly within your Jira issues. Here’s how to create and configure a checklist template for your project:

  1. Open the Project Settings
    • As a project admin, navigate to Project Settings in your Jira project.
    • Go to Apps β†’ Templating.app.
    • Or select the project from the Checklist Template dropdown at the Templating.app Overview
  2. Create a New Template
    • Click on Create a template in the Checklist Template configuration.
  3. Name Your Template
    • Enter a meaningful name for your checklist template to help identify its purpose.
  4. Add Action Items
    • Use the text editor to input your action items.
    • You can add an action item by typing [] or choosing it from the editor bar.
    • Format the checklist as needed.
    • You can also include @-mentions or additional text for clarity.
  5. Assign Issue Types
    • Select one or more Issue Types to define where the checklist template should apply.
    • Anytime a user creates an issue of this type in your project, the predefined checklist template will automatically appear in the description.
  6. Optional: Add a Label Condition
    • You can assign a label to act as an additional condition for the template to apply.
    • If configured, the checklist will only be added when the defined label is applied to the issue (during creation or when updated).
  7. Click Create to Save your Template
