Configure API Token

To unlock additional features in Templating.app like board templates, you need to configure an API token. This token is used to authenticate requests to the Jira Cloud APIs.

Caution

For security and best practices, it is recommended to create the API token using a dummy account with administrative privileges.

Steps to Configure the API Token

1. Open Templating.app
   • Navigate to Jira and open Templating.app from the Apps menu.
2. Go to Board Templates
   • Click on the Board Templates button in the Templating.app overview.
3. Access Administration
   • Click on Go to Administration.
   • If the API token has not been configured yet, you will be prompted to do so.
4. Generate an API Token
   • Click the Open API Token Settings button to navigate to your Atlassian account.
   • Create a new API token.
   • Copy the generated API token.
5. Set Up the API Token in Templating.app
   • Return to the API token configuration section in Templating.app.
   • Enter the email address of the dummy admin account and paste the copied API token.
   • Click Save Configuration.

Note

Once the API token is saved, all admins on your Jira site can start creating and managing board templates within Templating.app.
