Applying a board template allows you to create a new board with pre-configured settings, saving time and ensuring consistency. You can apply a board template either manually or as part of a project template.

Starting a New Initiative in an Existing Project

When starting a new initiative within an existing project, applying a board template manually is the perfect solution. It allows you to set up a dedicated board with predefined configurations without creating a new project, saving time and ensuring consistency. Simply choose the template that suits your needs and apply it directly to your current project.

  1. Open Templating.app Overview
    • Navigate to Jira and open Templating.app from the Apps menu.
  2. Go to Board Templates
    • Click on the Board Templates button in the Templating.app overview.
  3. Select a Board Template
    • Browse the list of available board templates.
    • Each template includes a name and a short description to help you choose the right one.
  4. Apply the Template
    • Click on the desired board template to open its details.
    • Choose the project for the new board (only company-managed software projects are available) and set a Board name.
    • Click Create board.

When starting a new project, you can include a board configured with a template as part of the setup. This approach ensures your project is ready to go with a tailored board that matches your workflows.

Using a project template with an integrated board template improves the process. You’ll define the project details, select the board template, and the system will handle the rest - creating both the project and the associated board seamlessly. This method is ideal for teams looking for consistency and efficiency right from the start.

  1. Include the Board Template in the Project Template
    • When setting up a project template, you can integrate one or more board templates into it.

  2. Apply the Project Template
    • During the project creation process, select the desired project template that includes the board templates.
    • Follow the project template’s steps to finalize the setup. When prompted, choose which board templates to apply (if multiple are available).
  3. Optional: Customize Board Details
    • Name the new board.
  4. Complete the Setup
    • Click Create Project to finalize both the project and the board creation.
