Steps to Create a Subtask Template
Basics

- Access Subtask Templates: In the project sidebar, click on Subtask Templates.
- Create a New Template: Click on the New Template button to start.
- Add Tasks: Start by giving your template a name (e.g., Web Release).
- Enter the summary of each subtask on a separate line.
- Press Enter to add a new line for each additional subtask.
- Click the subtask icon next to each line to change the subtask issue type, if needed.
- Add Details to Subtasks: Click the icon next to a subtask’s summary to open the detail view.
- Enter a description and add any other relevant information, such as Labels, Priority, Custom fields (You can also inherit values from the parent issue.)
- Save the Template: Once all subtasks and details are added, click Save to finalize your template.
Add Dynamic Information
To make your subtasks even more identifiable, you can add dynamic information that links them to their parent issue. This ensures clarity and context at a glance.
You can include the following dynamic fields in your subtask summaries:
- Parent Name: Inserts the parent issue’s summary.
- Parent Key: Adds the parent issue’s key.
When you activate one of these options, the dynamic value will be added before the subtask summary.
Example: If your parent issue is named APP-138 and you add a subtask with the summary Add background color, the final subtask will appear as: APP-138 Add background color
Insert Existing Issues
To save time and avoid starting from scratch, you can reuse existing subtasks by adding them directly to your Subtask Template.
- Insert Issues: In the template editor, click the Insert Existing Issues button.
- Search for Issues: A popup will appear, allowing you to search for issues in the project.
- Select the issue you want to import.
- Import: Click Import to add the selected issues to your template.
- Finalize Your Template: The imported issues, including basic information like summaries and descriptions, will now be part of your template. You can continue adding more issues, details, and variables as needed.
- Don’t forget to save your template!
