Edit Your Issue Template

Editing your Issue Templates is simple and allows you to keep them up-to-date with your changing project needs. Whether you need to adjust issue details, update variables, or reorganize the structure, hereโ€™s how it works.

  1. Open Templating.app by navigating to the Apps menu in Jira and selecting Templating.app.
  2. Locate the template you want to edit in the template library. Use the search bar or filters to find it quickly.
  3. Click on the template to open the preview.
  4. Click on the edit icon, located at the upper right corner.
  5. Update template details such as the name, subtitle, or description as needed.
    • Modify issues by adding new ones, editing existing ones, or deleting those no longer required.
    • Reorganize the issue hierarchy using drag-and-drop functionality.
    • Adjust variables by navigating to the Form & Variables section to update or add new ones. Ensure variables are appropriately placed in summaries, descriptions or other fields.
  6. Review all changes to ensure everything is accurate and consistent.
  7. Save the template to apply your edits.

Delete Your Issue Template

If an Issue Template is no longer needed, you can delete it quickly and easily. Follow these steps to remove a template from your library.


  1. Open Templating.app by navigating to the Apps menu in Jira and selecting Templating.app.
  2. Locate the template you want to delete in the template library. Use the search bar or filters to find it quickly.
  3. Click on the template to open the preview.
  4. Click on the edit icon, located at the upper right corner.
  5. Navigate to the Details section of the template.
  6. Click on the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner of the page.
  7. Select Delete from the dropdown menu.
  8. Confirm your decision when prompted to permanently delete the template.
