Migrate Templates and Issues

Templating.app offers a convenient feature that lets you insert existing Jira issues directly into an Issue Template. This makes it easy to migrate from other template apps or use previously cloned issues as templates.

Why Use This Feature?

  • Seamless Migration: Bring over templates from other solutions without recreating them from scratch.
  • Reuse Existing Issues: If you’ve manually cloned issues to use as templates, simply import them.

How to Migrate Using Existing Issues

  1. Prepare Your Issues: Ensure the issues you want to use in the template already exist in the relevant project.
    • You can either apply your previous template or manually clone issues, depending on your existing process.
  2. Create or Edit a Template: Go to Templating.app and either create a new Issue Template or edit an existing one.
  3. Insert Issues: In the template editor, click the Insert Existing Issues button.
  4. Search for Issues: A popup will appear, allowing you to search for issues in the project.
  5. Select the issue you want to import.
    • Include Child Issues (Optional): Decide whether to import only the selected issue or include all its child issues.
  6. Import: Click Import to add the selected issues to your template.
  7. Finalize Your Template: The imported issues, including basic information like summaries and descriptions, will now be part of your template. You can continue adding more issues, details, and variables as needed.
  8. Don’t forget to save your template!
