Apply Issue Template to Different Projects
Issue templates in Templating.app are designed to fit the project they were created for. This ensures compatibility with project-specific configurations such as issue types, fields, and assignable users. However, you can still apply an existing template to a different project if the configurations are similar.
Requirements
Templating.app allows you to select another project during issue creation using the project picker in the template preview. The more similar the projects are in terms of configuration, the smoother the process will be. For example:
- Matched Issue Types: Small differences, like “User Story” vs. “Userstory,” will be detected and automatically matched.
- Unmatched Configurations: If the template contains issue types or fields not available in the target project, those issues won’t be created.
Steps to Apply an Issue Template to Another Project
- Open the Template Library
- Navigate to the Issue Template Library in Templating.app.
- Select a Template
- Choose the template you want to use.
- Use the Project Picker
- In the preview on the right, click the dropdown menu next to the project name.
- Select a Target Project
- Pick the project where you want the issues to be created.
- Create Issues
- Click the Create Issues button to generate the tasks in the selected project.
Tips for Success
- Project Similarity: Ensure the target project has similar issue types and fields.
- Troubleshooting: If issues fail to create, check the target project’s configurations for missing fields or issue types.
