Create Description Template

Description Templates, also known as Issue Create Screen Templates, make creating issues in Jira effortless. When a user clicks the default Create button in Jira, these templates automatically apply, ensuring all the necessary information is in place β€” no extra steps required.

To create a Description Template, follow these steps:

Basics to create a Description Template

  1. Open Templating.app
    • Navigate to Templating.app from the Apps menu in Jira.
  2. Access the Behaviour Builder
    • Click on Behaviour Builder.
  3. Start Creating a Template
    • Click Let’s get started and then select Add Template.
  4. Set Basic Details
    • Provide a name and description for your template. This helps you locate it easily when editing templates later.
  5. Define the Scope
    • Choose the relevant projects and issue types for your template. You can select multiple projects and issue types as conditions for the template to apply.
  6. Choose Execution Options
    • Select when the template should run:
      • Run immediately when the screen is loaded (default)
      • Run every time a field used in a condition changes (default)
      • Run every time any field changes
      • Show logs during execution (useful for debugging purposes)
  7. Set Up Conditions and Modifications
    • Conditions: Define field values or user parameters that determine when the template applies. Visit our guide on Setting Conditions.
    • Modifications: Customize how the Issue Create Screen behaves when conditions are met. Learn more in our guide on Making Modifications.
  8. Save Your Template
    • Once all configurations are complete, save your template.
